Projects

More than just books: our collective’s expertise goes beyond traditional publishing work.

Development of hybrid publication formats

We develop, design and implement digital and hybrid publication formats for our own publishing products as well as on a contract basis.

– fernsehfolklore.ch: digital exhibition / website for the Institute for Social Anthropology and Empirical Cultural Studies – Popular Cultures at the University of Zurich (developed as part of a study project on folk music on Swiss television, a cooperation with the SRF Archive).

Image Capital: concept linking website, exhibition and book. Published online in 2024: https://image-capital.com/.

Consulting
We advise institutions and organizations on the implementation of new publication strategies, issues of open access and hybrid publishing (e.g. for the Istituto Svizzero in Rome and the documenta Institute in Kassel).

Open Access
We are committed to open access practices that are close to the needs of researchers, especially in the humanities. We are involved in the current discussion (for example at the Open Access in Action conference of swissuniversities (documentation is available here); or as organizers of the two workshops “After Open Access I and II” – workshop reports can be found here and here) and are in exchange with a growing network of Scholar-Led publishers. Click here for the joint manifesto: scholar-led.network-manifesto.

Outreach
Publishing is about more than producing books or creating websites, and we try to bring our expertise to bear in other capacities – e.g. in advisory roles in architectural planning, by organising public events, in the form of various blog formats (such as cache.ch/blog) and by developing new formats for university teaching (notably the research and writing seminars Æther, see here: ETH Zurich report).
