The statesman has company. In our communicatively networked present, diplomacy and society encounter and influence each other in many ways: the public becomes the target of public diplomacy and at the same time produces its own actors who intervene in foreign policy processes – from individuals such as Greta Thunberg to NGOs such as Amnesty International. The volume Diplomatie in Gesellschaft highlights the interactions between diplomacy and civil society in the short 20th century.
